Protaras beaches - golden sand, clear, calm, warm water

Protaras is a modern tourist resort at the outskirts of the village of Paralimni.  Paralimni is by far the largest village in the area (Paralimni in Greek means ‘by the lake’ as there is a lake, dry in summer, encircled by the villages of Paralimni, Derynia and Sotira).  Protaras is found about 10 km north east of Ayia Napa (the other big modern tourist resort in the area), 45 kilometers north east of Larnaca, 85 kilometers south east of Nicosia, 115 kilometers north east of Limassol, 180 kilometers east of Paphos, 150 kilometers east of Platres and 220 kilometers south east of Polis and Latchi.  Protaras is characterized by beaches with golden sand, clear calm and warm waters.  Protaras bay beach or Fig Tree bay beach is generally the most well known beach in Protaras.  Its natural setting is excellent as the islet in the center of the bay makes the water really calm most of the time in summer (when it gets really packed).  Other well known Protaras beaches are Vrisi beach (1-km long) just to the north of Protaras bay beach and Konnos beach (at the north tip of Cape Greko park).  There are many other excellent quality beaches in Protaras, many of them also having the Blue Flag eco-label.  There is a choice of both well organized (and congested) beaches as well as secluded coves.  There are lovely walking paths both in the north part of Protaras as well as in the nearby Cape Greko park, while the Cape Greko sea caves make for an excellent excursion.  Centrally between Louma beach and Vrisi beach a modern well organized trail was constructed in the last few years.

Protaras hotels are rather modern, many are luxurious and have 4 or even 5 star rating.  Most are built on the beach or very close by and offer excellent sea views.

Protaras attractions in our database related to nature include 12 beaches and 7 walking trails.
